THI506: L.A. Times' Helene Elliott
The Kings were mired in a losing streak when we recorded this podcast Tuesday afternoon. We were full of pessimism and depression, unsure of the future of the franchise. Then Tuesday happened, and the Kings beat the Predators. And all that negativity seems to be misguided.
It's become a running joke with Jesse and I. Every time we call out a particular player, that player turns around and starts playing well. It's like magic. So according to the key players in the win over the Predators, guess who we piled on this week?
But it's still a good show. This week we are joined by L.A. Times Kings beat writer Helene Elliott. We talk about the reaction to the Kings' rocky October, whether head coach Terry Murray is on the hot seat, and whether he is a "bridge" coach.
She also breaks down how the leadership of the team actually is, as well as whether AEG is feeling pressure to produce a contender, as well as how the NBA lockout could relates to the NHL. It's a fascinating conversation and we look forward to picking her brain every time she's comes on.
We also introduce the latest Naybermetric stat: power play plus. And I bring up the DIGR ratings, which gets Jesse fired up about the difference between Naybermetrics and other kinds of metric analysis. Good stuff.
