THI418: L.A. Times' Helene Elliott
February continues to roll out remarkably well, and the Kings are deep in the pack battling it out in the Western Conference for a playoff spot.
This week we are joined by the venerable L.A. Times' beat writer Helene Elliott, live and direct from the beautiful city of Columbus. Helene had written a column about Mario Lemieux's comments about the league's failure to dole out more severe penalties in the Islanders/Penguins donnybrook last weekend. Rather than sitting around and saying "yeah, that sucks," we actually discuss a possible solution that would solve the ongoing fighting problems the NHL has right now as well as changing the actual culture of the sport at the same time. It's a good discussion, and one that doesn't have an annoying buzz in the background. That's right, the buzz is back. For some reason, that annoying hum is underlying much of the podcast, despite all efforts to tell and take it out in post-production. All I can say is I'm sorry and try to listen on your external speakers. Otherwise, your head might explode like that dude in Scanners.
In between the hum, we crown a King of the Week, discuss which Kings should be considered for a major award at the end of the season, we talk about our successful watch party against the Capitals and discuss our first trip to the Inland Empire to watch an ECHL game between the Ontario Reign and the Elmira Jackholes. It was a good time had by all.
