Aces Mark finishes second at Belmont

From the Daily Racing Form website :

Aces Mark, the 6-year-old gelding named in honor of two NationalHockey League scouts killed during the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001,finished second, beaten three-quarters of a length in the eighth race.

Aces Mark made the lead in upper stretch under John Velazquez, butcouldn’t hold off Hear the Footsteps. Aces Mark is named for Ace Baileyand Mark Bavis, who were on United Airlines flight 175 from Boston, which crashed into the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.

“He ran his eyeballs out,” said Lew Mongelluzzo, another NHL scoutand proprietor of Team Power Play Racing, which owns Aces Mark. “To getto this day was big for us, for those guys, Ace and Mark, and theirfamilies. It would have been great to win but you know what we’re justhappy to get here at this time.”
However, there is no video of the race, at least not yet. According to TVG.com , they made a programming decision to not air the Belmont races Saturday, because of "contractual obligations to several other tracks." They did offer the race live streaming on the website, but the race will be shown on Sunday on TVG.

As soon as I can track down the race, I'll post the video...

In case you wanted some background on Aces Mark, here's a 2008 story from the NHL. And here's some information about the Bailey & Bavis Memorial Fund.
