What does Luc have to do with Piranha 3-D?

So, I was debating on which movie to watch this weekend. The Expendables was the far-and-away choice until I found out Piranha 3-D was opening this weekend. Now, I'm debating about making it a double feature.

In the movie notes: the movie is broken down rather simply.
"It's got naked girls, crazy fish, great actors, a fun story line, and 3-D."
Think the order of how it's listed gives up anything?

Steven R. McQueen at the premiere of Piranha 3DLook, I'm not the classiest of movie-goers, I'll admit. I did, in fact, go see Mortal Kombat in the theaters on Thanksgiving Day. My copy of Deep Blue Sea is in heavy rotation on my DVD player. And I'm still hoping and praying for Cloverfield 2.

Piranha 3D will probably be the second of the only three movies that I'll watch in 3D. The first one was Avatar, naturally. The second will be this bloodlust flick with prehistoric omnivorous panfish. "What's the third?" Yup, you guessed it, Jackass 3D. (I told you I'm not discerning.)

By it's very definition, Piranha 3D is a summer movie. And all of the actors who have taken part in it get that. They even cut together a tongue-in-cheek video for Oscar voters for Consideration for Best Picture.

True, it's a remake of the 1978 movie Piranha, which was trying to capitalize on the original summer blockbuster, 1975's Jaws. Sure, it's cheesy. But imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Check out the evolution of the movie poster.

The cast is impressive. Elizabeth Shue? Yes, please. Ving Rhames? Absolutely. Jerry O'Connell? Well... Christopher Lloyd? Great Scott! Playboy covergirl Kelly Brock? Oh God yes. (Link sorta NSFW!) Eli Roth? Sure. And Richard Dreyfuss reprising his role at Matt Hooper from the Jaws?!? Are you kidding me? Add to that the report that they used 80,000 gallons of blood, and now we're getting somewhere.

But then I stumbled across an actual L.A. Kings connection: Steven R. McQueen, stepson of Luc Robitaille and star of the CW's Vampire Dairies, plays Elizabeth Shue's son, Jake Forester.

"But why doesn't he have Luc's last name?" you might ask. Well, Luc had said in a previous interview that Steven was debating on using Robitaille as his screen name, but Luc told him hewasn't sure that would as many doors in Hollywood as McQueen. Yes, Steven is the grandson of Hollywood icon Steve McQueen. Luc said having a name like that is like being royalty. (I'm paraphrasing here.)

But then Steven did something really cool. He added the initial R, which stands for Robitaille. A touching tribute to his Hockey Hall of Fame dad. I know both Luc and Stacia  Robitaille are really proud of both of their sons. (Brother Jessarae is quite the singer.)

That clinches it. I'm going Sunday... Here's a look at an interview with McQueen, discussing his current work with those fierce, famished fish.
