Weekend Returns: Kiss that Frog

Last weekend, the number one movie across the land was Disney's Princess and the Frog. The story features a plucky girl named Tiana, who gets mixed up with a crazy frog prince whose kiss turns her into a frog. Hilarity ensues.
Don't get me wrong, I love Disney movies. Having two kids, animated film appreciation is a prerequisite. And this movie is special, because the heroine is black, the first time Disney has created a nubian princess amongst their huge assortment of bowl-wearing, tiara-sporting, doe-eyed girls.
But therein lies the problem: Tiana is black for the first 15 minutes of the movie. Then she's turned into a amphibian. Way to go, Disney. Can't even get that right.
The Kings actually have more in common with this movie than you would think. Allow me to riff on the Princess and the Frog's pitch:
Set in the city of Los Angeles comes a modern twist on a classic hockey tale, featuring a young, talented team, a fan base who desperately wants to be contenders, and the fateful decision to roll out goalie Jonny Quick out every game that leads both the team and their fans on an adventure through the mystical bayous of.... L.A.
O.K., so I haven't perfected it yet. But I'm sure there's a connection there. How did our boys fare this past week, after reaching the top of the Western Conference?

The Kings are on fire, having won four in a row and seven of eight, and gathering points in eight straight contests to start the week atop the Western Conference. The loss of surprising Wayne Simmonds will hurt.• TSN's Power Rankings: This week 9. Last week 13.
Overtime and shootout wins are making up a heavy portion of the Kings' recent success, which includes eight straight without a regulation loss and it's how the Western Conference leaders in the standings have managed to score only three more goals than they've allowed this season. Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown snapped slumps against the Sharks this week, and suddenly the balanced Kings are looking like a force. They've won three in a row, all against teams currently qualifying for the playoffs in the West. So, you know the drill. We take the integers, formulate the correct configuration on the official Hockeywood Power Abacus and Back Massager, and we come up with the official Hockeywood Power Ranking for the Kings of:
5.
The highest the Kings have been collectively ranked thus far in the league. Can they maintain it over the holiday season, when they have eight days off? Only time will tell... Until then, here's a trailer that will hopefully make you forget about John Cusack's slip-up for 2012. I present: Hot Tub Time Machine!
