Real men wear pink!

So, I don't cover the Kings' west coast farm club, the Ontario Reign, enough. Maybe it's because I'm still a little bitter the Ice Dogs went away, Maybe it's because I've got my hands full "covering" the Kings. Maybe I'm lazy.... actually, I think that's it.

Honestly though, I like what they are doing up there. It seems to me that they're taking promoting a third hockey team in southern California more seriously than when the Dogs graced the L.B. Arena.

And their latest promotion actually grabbed my attention when I saw the ad linked over on letsgokings.com. This Saturday, when the Reign takes on the Alaska Aces, they will be sporting a pink and black jersey as part of their Pink in the Rink night to benefit breast cancer awareness.

Now, while not as original as making players skate on pink ice, like the Norfolk Admirals did last season, it does show creativity on their part. I mean, it takes a real man to wear pink. Just ask the Calgary Hitmen.

The jersey doesn't look half-bad. And if I didn't have to work on Saturday, I'd make a trip up to Ontario, maybe make a bid on the Zatkoff jersey. But I think it's really commendable that of all sports, hockey is the one who tackles cancer awareness the best.

Hello, My name is Tony Duran, and I'm an Account Executive with the Ontario Reign. I just wanted to say thank you for this awesome article. I was the lead person in organizing this Pink at the Rink night, though we could not have accomplished what we did without some very key people. We were able to raise over $36,000 from the jersey auction alone. I hope to make this a huge annual event, and I hope we can continue to raise money and awareness for this cause. Thanks again.
