Friday was supposed to feature two of the top four draft picks from this past summer's NHL draft. The Kings selected D Drew Doughty with the second pick, while the Blues picked D Alex Pietrangelo. However, Pietrangelo sat out his fourth straight game with an upper body injury.

The Philadelphia Flyers were the first to have Mrs. Mom smile with the captains and now they only have 1 win in the young season and have lost superstar small guy Daniel Briere for a month. Then, last night versus the Kings, St. Louis Blues goalie Manny Legace trips on the on carpet that had been laid out for Palin to walk on, and tweaks his knee. Coincidence? Once again, I gotta give props to the checking line. They're looking good out there for almost every single shift. I can't say enough good things about them, bla, bla, bla, boring, boring, snore. Speaking of props, I will grudgingly give a nod to Calder. He was out there doing what he was supposed to be doing, being scrappy and helping to create some room for Brownie and Anze Kopitar.
