CrownGate 2008!
Over on LetsGoKings, an odd observation was made by a fan about the logo at center ice.Seems whoever was responsible for putting the Kings crown at center ice failed to fill in the top of the logo with silver. At first glance, many may not notice. But if you're a longtime Kings ticket holder, the faux pas is instantly noticeable. At least it was to me. As of Friday night, it was still wrong.
Now, I've heard of lapses of copy editing on the front of a jersey, like this one for the Anaheim ANGEES. Misspellings on the back of jerseys are even more common, even Wayne GRETKZY was a victim of that. There have been several misspellings on the Stanley Cup, including former King Adam Deadmarsh, who had is name etched "DEADMARCH" when he won the Cup for Colorado.
Each of these examples are embarrassing, but forgivable. This is a little different. The logo is pretty huge, smack dab at center ice. It's the trademarked symbol for the club, they wear it on the front of the jerseys, it adorns countless apparel items in the Team LA store. Hell, it is even emblazoned on the back of MY car.
It's obvious that whoever was supposed to apply the logo needed a Snickers bar, like that old dude from the commercial, who painted 'CHEFS' in the end zone. Granted, it's not a misspelling, simply an omission of a color.
I'm sure as soon as the ice is melted, the mistake will be fixed. According to the Staples Center website, Celine Dion is coming... in December. Hopefully, they'll resurface before then. But it takes over a day to make the ice from scratch. There's some spans in between Kings, Lakers and Clippers games that could work to make some fresh ice. Until they do, it's gonna gnaw at me.
