• LA Times: Kings rewarded in 6-3 win over Ducks

"It's still a game-to-game thing that we're making progress and getting better," said defenseman Tom Preissing, who scored the Kings' fifth goal and third power-play strike of the evening with a low shot from the top of the right circle. "With the amount of talent that we have, if we continue to get better we're going to win games and surprise some teams."

This is a team that fancies itself a Stanley Cup contender?

If it’s possible to reach rock bottom only three dates into an 82-game schedule, the Ducks have done exactly that.

• Battle For California: Random Thoughts on the Kings

-Patrick O'Sullivan was again excellent. Since the Kings only have 2 games in the next 9 days, I imagine the Kings will work O'Sullivan in with one of the top 2 lines.

-Jason Labarbera is playing pretty well. Sure, he still gives up a few bad rebounds and he's not a great scrambler, but he's stands big in the net and gives his defensemen confidence.

-What the hell has gotten into Derek Armstrong? He's really mad all the time. I hope everything's okay at home.

I thought the Kings were done when the Ducks took an early 2-0 lead, but the guys held strong and, despite a couple hiccups here and there, executed a very solid game that was completely different than the ones they played this past weekend.

• A Queen Among Kings: Kings 6, Ducks 3

• The Royal Half: Freeway Fizzle

I don't hate the Ducks because they are the cross-town rival. And I think the "Freeway Face-Off" is the worst crime of forced rivalry branding since the Lexus Gauntlet. (Besides, everyone knows that the Cortaca Jug is the most important rivalry battle.) No, I hate the Ducks because they were able to win a Stanley Cup within 14 years of being an expansion team.
