What a game!!!

So, this past week has been a long one, not just for Kings fans, but for me as well.

As you may know, I work in the sports department of a daily newspaper here in Long Beach. This past Sunday, we published our annual Best in The West prep basketball selections. It's one of the trademark sections we do that gets national attention, from college basketball fans and recruiters alike. However, it caused me to log 40 additional hours over the past two weeks. Just in time for Christmas.

But it also means I was stuck in the office while the Kings had one of their most memorable games. (grrrrrrrr). I did get the sports desk to turn on the game, just in time to see Dallas score. A calvacade of jeers came from everyone, including one newbie Duck fan. I wasn't really paying attention, since I was coming off three 12-hour days. I was watching, dear Kings fan, but you understand how it is when your team is down a bunch after two periods.

Anywho, we were sending the BIW section off the floor when Dustin Brown scored. I quipped "Don't call it a comeback, I've been here for years," which got a smattering of snickers... Four goals later, I was wide awake and fully pumped. Even though I had only about 10 hours of sleep in three days, I was full-on into the game, Pumper-Nichol-ing all over the department, and telling Duck fan to shut his piehole.

But when Dallas tied it up, and the game went into overtime, my lack of sleep caught up with me. I figured I had to leave so I could catch the shootout in the car on the way home, when I heard a "Hey Matt!" I turned and bolted back to see Kopitar exulting around the ice.

A fantastic third period played by L.A., and everyone was anxious to name this come-from-behind win. The Royal Rebond was suggested, as well as other similarly-named monikers. But I am of the belief that you don't nickname regular season games that don't mean anything. I mean, it was a nice win against the Stars, who have owned the Kings the past few years. But certainly not worthy of getting some elaborate name.
