New Reebok jerseys unsafe... for fighting?
I've heard all the complaints about the new Reebok EDGE hockey jerseys, mostly from portly fans who think they are too tight. Overall, I have heard nothing but positive remarks about the new duds, until today. New Jersey Devils winger Arron Asham made a remark to the New Jersey Herald that the new Reebok jerseys are dangerous... for fighters.
Arron Asham's sweater tore down his back during the first seconds of his fight with Riley Cote. Now, call me kooky, but complaining about the jerseys being unsafe while you try to cave in another player's face with your fists seems a little... I don't know... off. But Asham wasn't the only Devil to comment on the jerseys.
"I don't know what it was, but it's definitely not safe," Asham said. "Hopefully, they'll figure out something about it. ... It's definitely not good for fighters. I guess they want to take it out of the game that bad. I don't know, but the jerseys are terrible."
(Cam) Janssen's jersey tore rather easily, allowing Jesse Boulerice to lift it over his head, blinding him.Janssen (above) didn't exactly come out and say it, but he also didn't blame his shoulder injury for his lack of punching against Boulerice. So, are the new jerseys dangerous? Maybe to some fighters' pride, who can now use the excuse in the case they get pummeled in the future.
"What happened with the jersey was it got caught over my head for 30 seconds and I just took a pounding," Janssen said. "But it had nothing to do with my shoulder injury."
"I lost the fight because my jersey ripped in the back, exposing my ribs to unprotected shots."
Please.

I myself am not sure what I think of the new Reebok jersey's yet. If they are tearing easier then the old ones than that is a problem....for the fans that is, because I am sure the league would not mind if they "had" to bring out a new style next year that would solve this problem....causing the fans to have to fork out even more money next year for even newer more "fighting" safe jersey's.....you know, for those occasion when that annoying drunken fan who is cheering for the opposition won't shut his loud mouth and you find that you just "have" to shut it for him. With the new jersey's he will be much safer after you pummel him to the ground, his fall will have much more padding because his new jersey won't rip, which of course would cushion his fall!
Get real guys, suck it up and fight or don't fight!
